A renowned manufacturer of broadcasting systems came to the team at Midas needing a low-volume, customer-facing, plastic enclosure at a competitive cost. Thanks to our ground-breaking MRIM™ process – a tooling system that allows even the most complex of forms to be produced accurately and quickly – we were able to provide the best solution.
Our client holds a prominent position in the broadcasting industry, supplying quality routing, control and signal distribution systems as well as innovative automation solutions to an international market. With such a strong reputation to uphold, there was no margin for error in terms of design, manufacture and delivery.
For the development of a new HD master control solution called Masterpiece, our client sought the help of an external product design agency. They developed a concept for the front panel of the system, a customer-facing plastic panel that also coupled as a drop-down door giving access to the electronics housed within.
Although the design was ideal, the client required the team at Midas to complete manufacture using their fast-track production solution. Time was critical and we had the expertise to ensure a cost-effective, rapid production process was offered.
Midas was able to provide the required tooling needed for a small batch of fewer than 1000 runs without compromising the style of the product. Our MRIM™ process has been engineered especially for such projects and we had the skill and pattern making capability to get the product to market, fast.
We were supplied with the 3D CAD files from the product design agency and, by closely working with the clients R&D engineers, we were able to finalise all the features of the door including the hinging, air flow and RFI issues. Design for manufacture was also considered to ensure costs were kept to a minimum and allowed the company to produce and deliver a new product in a very short time.
By modifying the design to make manufacturing more feasible, we were able to produce the Masterpiece front panel efficiently and cost-effectively using our specialised RIM moulding process without any compromise to product elegance. Additional services provided by Midas included full procurement and assembly of the product so the client could simply take the finished component out of the box and fit it directly to the machine.
The client was extremely pleased with the results and continued to drive their success forwards reaching a £30 million turnover in just 30 years of operation.
