Midas Success Across the Board at Fatyak

  • Adventure board manufacturer looking for rotational mould tooling partner
  • The product needed to be a one-piece mould without seams or joints
  • Included innovative design elements such as deep tracking channels

An adventurous lifestyle company needed a tooling supplier who could produce complex rotational mould tooling for its newest product to launch. After cross-checking the market, Fatyak ultimately chose to work with Midas for the newly developed multi-purpose Hönö fun board, designed for use on both water and snow.

With a history spanning 25 years, Fatyak is a leading leisure brand and rotational moulding specialist. The company’s products are designed to offer an easy and affordable entry into the world of outdoor activities, and the Hönö is no exception. With their own moulding facilities located in Williton, Somerset, Fatyak was looking for a partner company to produce the required tooling.

“We wanted a quality, dual-purpose product, which is when we had the idea for the Hönö,” explains Nick Hawkins, the company’s General Manager.

It was clear from the start that the client wasn’t prepared to spare any expense on design or execution. Luckily the team here at Midas are well-equipped to produce quality parts at a competitive price.

Rotationally moulded parts are especially suited for larger and more rugged applications where strength and size are key factors. Due to being used on both water and snow, it was essential for the Hönö board to be produced as a one-piece product, eliminating any seams or joints. The board was manufactured using polyurethane and finished with the latest UV stabilisation packages to reduce colour fade and maintain overall strength.

The 4kg Hönö also offers a number of other design innovations that required careful consideration by Midas, such as deep channels on the bottom for good tracking, a batwing profile on the tail for stable turning, a moulded-in feature to secure the board-saving leash, and a drain plug location.

Our experienced team were able to make important suggestions to help improve the overall performance of the product in terms of style, weight and shape, which were fully appreciated by our client who took much of our advice onboard.

We were able to deliver the finished tooling directly to the client on a right-first-time basis, allowing Fatyak to begin manufacture of approximately 600 Hönö boards per annum at a size of 1200 x 590 x 100mm.
