Now that we are nearly a year into our mission to make Midas as green a manufacturing business as it’s possible to be, many things have changed in our personal lives too.
As Midas' MD I have changed everything I can to make my world as green as it can possibly be, from a vegan (ish) diet to electric transport, from composting to avoiding flying, from zero waste to green electricity, from induction cooking to Biogas, from a carbon footprint in excess of 15 tonnes pa to one that is well under 0.5 tonnes pa.......there’s probably more i can do but I’m definitely down to the 'thin end of the wedge' now...
The biggest thing though is communication, I now realise the biggest thing i can do isn’t actually doing these things, its talking about them, its talking about climate change, its talking about the difference one single person can make to a seemingly monumentally impossible task......... lobbying, talking, explaining all create tiny ripples of interest and hopefully sow the seeds of change in other minds that can grow and develop into more change that inevitably will bring real change at national and international level
I really do believe we have a limited amount of time to stop global warming and take control of the problem's its caused while it is still technically financially possible to do so, and I think that can only happen if individuals like you and me Act Now!
Now i see the world through 'green tinted glasses' i take notice of many more things related to the environment than i ever did, last week at the Imperial War Museum I saw this old recruitment poster from June 1916.........
You can understand how it made me think of the most inspirational placard I saw during The October Rebellion in 2019...........
We can all throw our arms up in despair and say 'what about China?' or 'Why should I bother when Trump doesn’t care?' Etc. Everyone has a dozen excuses not to bother, after all the task is daunting, but for me it’s simple, I can’t change what other people do but I sure can change what I do!
I have total and complete control over my own carbon footprint and my attitude towards Climate Change, and as a result, by using my voice and my platform, do you know what? just maybe I can help change what other people do after all, and just imagine what WE could do, as a civilisation, if everyone thought positively and took that approach……
