Midas Pattern Company Takes Centre Stage in Macau

  • High-end gaming units for Macau’s renowned casinos
  • Opulent yet durable design for 24/7 use
  • Manufactured with flame-retardant materials

With a 2017 gaming win of $33 billion, Macau, China is known as the ‘Gambling Capital of the World’.

When approached by a UK-based industrial design house to trial the production of high-end gaming units for casinos in Macau, the team at Midas were keen to prove that our MRIM™ processes were perfect for the opulent yet durable designs they were looking for.

Our client required a product with a large assembly size, and so in order to meet their tight timescales, they chose to enter production with our MRIM™ tooling process. Our fast and accurate CNC machining techniques ensured that lead-times were kept short allowing for the quick production of the first large batch requirement.

Due to the requirement for a fast turnaround for an important upcoming trade show, all design for manufacture aspects had to be as accurate as possible to ensure there were no fitment issues upon completion. Timing and partnership were everything.

After completing the first-off tool mouldings all parts were trialled together to ensure there were no issues. The sheet metal work required minimal tweaks and once these minor adjustments were completed, we were able to finalise the first set ready to be assembled and shipped to Macau by the client.

Using our MRIM® process, each unit was specified to UL94/V0 flame retardant standards ensuring regulatory guidelines were adhered to. We used a range of finishes to achieve the sleek, opulent design desired by the end client, including spatter, high-gloss and hydro-graphics to produce a side panel wood effect. The finished product was perfectly suited to its high-end final location.

Following a comprehensive ergonomic, aesthetic and functionality review, we were commissioned to produce a batch of 200 polyurethane gaming units, which were delivered in weekly drops of 25-off to our UK-based client for assembly.

At Midas, we strive to exceed the expectations of our clients every day. Over the last 28 years, we have developed our experiences into the ability to work within a range of demanding industries, and our production methods ensure we can take on a variety of reaction injection moulding projects.
