Our client is a market-leading creator of top-end mixing consoles for professional recording studios and have set the bench mark against which recording equipment is measured. Having previously worked with us for the revamp of earlier products – we combined expertise once more.
The Oxfordshire-based business with US and Far East offices decided to launch the Matrix range of consoles, which would embody all of the company’s traditional quality and high standards. The range would be a smaller, more lightweight console that would be sold through a dealer network at a significantly lower price than its existing products - targeting smaller studios, professional home studios and even the well-heeled amateur musician.
A faster assembly time was essential without compromising its striking appearance making design the key to success of this new cost-effective range.
Working with the client, the inner electronics system was designed with the outer casing in mind from the word go. Having worked with Midas before, the client knew the capabilities of our MRIM™ process and we were able to successfully design a housing system that would be quick to manufacture and assemble.
We created a CNC-machined prototype for the client to review before the designers began creating 3D designs which we used to manufacture the final moulding. These 3D designs provided the development team the ability to adapt and adjust the casing, creating a console that was as easy to assemble as possible – a key requirement in the products specifications.
By using our MRIM™ process, our client could easily focus on styling, incorporating essential design features such as smooth curves, recesses for displaying monitors and keyboards and invisible screw heads for a better visual experience. Once the design was finalised, our team created the tooling and first batch of products within 10 weeks.
Less than a year after the original decision to create the new product, the first Matrix consoles were rolling off the production line ready for delivery thanks to the hard work and dedication from both our client and the team here at Midas.
